After changing a smartphone, the user needs to transfer personal information from the old device. And if it’s quite easy to copy media files, then with phone numbers, email addresses, and contacts of popular instant messengers, everything is more complicated. Manually is possible, but it is time-consuming and tedious work. Therefore, it is better to use a lot of modern methods that simplify the process.

You don't need any special technical skills to use the methods below. All of them are simple, if not primitive.

Synchronizing your account with your Google account

The latest smartphone models running the Android operating system have a high degree of integration with Google services. And a huge part of the functionality is tied to the user’s own account, which includes email in Gmail, access to, and authorization in YouTube. It also involves working with documents and the Google Drive cloud service.

Creating an account will be prompted when you first start any device and is not difficult, but if necessary, you can read the details. In addition, you can log in to an existing profile. This aspect will help to transfer contact information.

First, you need to synchronize the smartphone itself with your Google account. Contacts will be uploaded to Google servers and will be protected from loss and can be easily restored. Even if a system error occurs with the software, an emergency occurs, or your phone is stolen, your contacts will remain intact in any case.

To synchronize we need:

To transfer contacts from Android to Android Using this method, you need to log into your account on another device and also click synchronize.

Transfer contacts using Bluetooth

  • Activate Bluetooth on both devices

  • Open Contacts and select Send Business Card

  • Select how many contacts you are going to send - one or more

  • Select the required contacts and click "Done"

  • In the next window, select "Bluetooth" and transfer contacts to another device

How to transfer contacts from Android to Android using a computer

Most major smartphone manufacturers release special programs for Windows and MacOS to synchronize their devices with a computer. Using these programs, you can not only create backups or move files, but also transfer contacts to a new phone.

The most famous similar applications:

  • Kies or Smart Switch from Samsung
  • Xperia™ Companion from SONY
  • LG BRIDGE from LG
  • HiSuite from Huawei

If there is no proprietary application for your device, then you can use universal programs. One of the most popular such programs is MOBILedit!

Using an SD card

Another simple and fast way to transfer contacts that will work on any Android smartphone.

  • Open Contacts on your smartphone and tap Settings
  • Click the button "Import/export contacts"

  • In the next window, click export

If you have a Samsung, HTC or other Android phone, then you will be interested in information on how to save contacts from this device to your computer. No one is immune from data loss or accidental deletion. For this reason, it is advisable to make backup copies of your phone book from time to time. This will protect your data from unforeseen situations.

Synchronizing contacts on an Android phone is collecting data from the phone book into a single database. The resulting file can be transferred to a computer, to a memory card, to another phone, to the cloud, etc. During synchronization, information from the device is backed up, and then a single database is formed in an Excel table.

Why sync your phone book? Let's consider several reasons:

  • purchasing a new smartphone. Let's imagine the situation that you bought a new Android phone and you need to transfer the entire address database to it. Recovering data manually is quite difficult, especially if the number of numbers exceeds a hundred. Thanks to phone book synchronization, numbers can be transferred to a new phone in literally 10 minutes, and they can be easily “pulled” out of your account and transferred to a new device;
  • loss or breakdown of a gadget. If your smartphone is broken or you don't have access to it, you can easily copy your phone book to a new device. To do this, you only need the backup copy that you decided to make earlier;
  • return to factory settings. With this procedure, most of the data is permanently erased.

You can create backups and synchronize data on all devices based on the Android operating system: Samsung, Lenovo, Sony and many others.

To summarize, we can say that synchronization is a useful and necessary procedure. So that information can be stored and, if necessary, used, it is recommended to record it on a computer hard drive or USB drive.

Via the Contacts application

Let's move directly to the question of how to copy contacts from your phone to your computer. If necessary, this procedure can be done in reverse, that is, data can be transferred from the computer to the phone. This question is not a difficult one. By following the instructions below, in a few minutes you will be able to transfer contacts to your PC and edit them if necessary.

The easiest and fastest way to set up synchronization is to export from the Contacts application.

  1. Go to the “Settings” menu on the desktop of your Android device.
  1. Scroll through the menu and find the “Device” section. Select the “System applications” option.
  1. In the section that opens, find the “Contacts” section and click on it.
  1. Next, in the “Contacts” section, click on “Import and Export”.
  1. Click "Export to storage". This step involves saving the database of numbers to the phone’s memory. It is also possible to reset all the necessary information to the SIM card.
  1. An information window will appear in front of you. It indicates the path where the data will be moved. They are renamed by serial number. Confirm by pressing the “OK” key.

This completes the basic steps for exporting data to a computer. To be more sure, you can check whether the file was saved correctly. For this:

  1. Go to the “Explorer” application on the device’s desktop.
  1. Make sure that the “Device” column is selected in the top tab. Next, select the “Internal Memory” section. We scroll through the folders and see that the contact information database is saved in VCF format.

Ready! Now we connect the device to the computer via a USB cable and move the information saved on the internal media to the PC’s hard drive. This file can also be sent by email or placed in the cloud. To do this, you do not need to connect the gadget to your PC. You can import information back to your phone in the same way.

If you are thinking about how to open the VCF format, then we will answer this question. To read it, you can use the following programs and services: MS Outlook, Gmail (there is a corresponding “Contacts” section), Notepad+++.

Via Google

Let's consider another method that will help move all numbers from your phone to your computer's memory. It is worth noting that for this method the presence of the phone itself is not at all necessary. This is an excellent option if the smartphone screen does not work and the user does not have the opportunity to upload data through “Contacts” on the device. The guide is relevant for Xiaomi, Samsung, HTC, Lenovo and other gadgets running Android OS.

Let's look at the step-by-step instructions.

  1. Log into your Gmail account and select the “Contacts” section in the left panel.
  1. A menu opens in front of you, which describes all your numbers that were in the phone book of your smartphone. Click on the “More” column in the left menu panel.
  1. Click on the “Export” button.
  1. A dialog box will appear in front of you, as shown in the screenshot below. The new version of Gmail does not yet support the function of exporting contacts and you need to switch to the old version. Click the corresponding button.
  1. Click on the “More” button in the top panel, then click “Export...”.
  1. In the window that appears, you can select which phone numbers you want to copy, as well as in what format (CSV USB
    or vCard).
  1. We check that the settings are correct and click “Export”.

Ready. The file with the address database will be downloaded and placed on your computer. The downloaded CSV format will open through MS Excel. This is convenient for further viewing and editing.

Using third party applications

The above describes two main methods by following which you can make a backup of your Samsung phone or any other. If for some reason it is not possible to use these methods, then you should switch to third-party applications.

Export to CSV

This application is called "Export Contacts and CSV Data". It can be found and downloaded for free on the Google Play Store. Using this utility, you can easily save contacts or SMS in CSV format.

The program has an extremely simple interface. If you need to export a book of addresses, then click on “Export contacts”. If you need to transfer SMS, then click on “Export SMS”. The application does not require any separate settings. The files will be saved in CSV format and written to a Micro CD card.

Bottom line

The above describes several ways by which you can extract the contact database and later open it on your computer or transfer it to another smartphone. All methods are quite simple and will not take you more than 10 minutes of time.

Video

In this video you can visually familiarize yourself with the methods of copying and saving contacts to your computer.

If there is an urgent need to transfer contacts from the phone book on an Android phone to a PC, then you will have a question “how to transfer contacts from a phone to a computer?” In fact, today it is very, very simple, since there are several ways to do this, for example, synchronizing your Google account with your phone and transferring data directly to your computer through it. You can also use third-party programs or a function in your phone that also allows you to transfer contacts to your computer (not available on all phones).

Advice: Always try to sync your accounts and devices with each other. Today this can easily be done in your Google account, but the benefits from this will be enormous, since you can transfer any information from your phone to your computer and back in a couple of clicks.

Transferring contacts

How to save contacts from Android to a computer if the device is synchronized with a Google account? First, you will need to go to contacts.google.com, where you can transfer all the necessary information from your phone to your computer. Select “export” in the “more” item, after which a window will open where you will need to fill in some fields. Select the “my contacts” group, you can select “all contacts”, but there may be many contacts you don’t need there, i.e. those whom you have called and written to at least once. And select the file to export CSV. Then click export and the file with our data is safely downloaded to your computer.

If your phone has the ability to import and export to a computer, then all you need is your phone. Go to the “contacts” application and there should be an “import/export” item in the menu. The interface of Android devices may be slightly different, so you will have to look for this item yourself. Then you will be offered options for exporting - from the drive, to the drive, or transfer only visible contacts. The first option is not suitable for us, the second is the most suitable, since a file with contacts is saved on the phone, which can then be transferred to a computer via USB.

You can also transfer contacts using third-party programs from Google Play, but there is not much point in this, since the essence remains the same. You export contacts to the cloud or as a separate file on your phone, then transfer them to your computer in any convenient way.

Surely everyone, after purchasing a new smartphone, asked the question: “How can I transfer contacts from phone to phone?” Moreover, this can be done in the most painless way both for the gadget itself and for the nervous system of the owner.

Let's try to figure it out and list the most popular ways to transfer contacts from an old phone to a new one: using third-party software, a personal computer and other available equipment.

Transfer contacts using PC

Before transferring contacts from phone to phone, we need an old gadget from which we need to export, a personal computer and a USB cable (preferably a branded one). The MOBILedit utility will be used as software support, which can be downloaded from the official website of the developer.

The basic version of the software has not been translated into Russian, and if anyone has problems with this, you can look for amateur resources that take care of localization. In any case, all the functionality of the program is intuitive and should not confuse you.

Before transferring contacts from phone to phone, the utility will first offer to download or update drivers specifically for your gadget. In order to speed up the process, you can select your specific smartphone model and confirm the start of installation.

After completing the installation of drivers and other supporting software, you must go to the “Cable Connection” tab and, after asking for the connection type, select “PC Sync”. Sometimes a different name may appear - it all depends on the model of your gadget and the installed drivers.

  1. Smartphone settings.
  2. Developer options.
  3. Click on “USB Debugging”.

These steps must be completed with gadgets on the Android platform with a version lower than 4.2. In other cases, the instructions for the phone will be different:

  1. System tab.
  2. "Device Information".
  3. Item "Build number".
  4. "USB Debugging"

Then, already in the MOBILEDit program, select the “Phonebook” tab on the left side of the utility and go to export. Before transferring contacts from phone to phone, we indicate the type of file to be exported, as well as the location where it will be stored. Next, select “Import” in the menu and, following the program’s instructions, transfer the old contacts to the new gadget. This can be done either via a USB cable or via wireless protocols (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth).

Google Drive

If you had a simple phone without any specific “problems” and have access to the network, you can use software from a well-known search engine. You can synchronize the service from Google with your phone book.

This synergy is also practical because you can make any changes to your data at any time without having your phone at hand. Before transferring contacts from your old phone to a new gadget, you just need to log into your Google service account on the new device and agree to synchronization.

Among other things, the software provides its clients with opportunities that were lost for some reason in the last 30 days.

"Yandex.Disk"

Another simple way to transfer contacts from an old gadget to a simple phone is a domestic service from the search engine of the same name, Yandex.Disk. Just like in the previous case, we will need a network connection.

Before you start exporting, you need to install the appropriate software from Yandex, which can be found in the corresponding section of the Google Play service. Once you install the application, you will need to copy all the contacts you want to transfer.

Then, after your data has been copied and your Yandex.Disk account has been activated, you should complete the following steps:

  • Launch the utility on the new phone and log in to your account with the same data with which you logged in earlier for export.
  • Next in the menu you need to go to the “Settings” item (the name may change depending on the model).
  • Select the “Move from phone to phone” tab.
  • The utility will ask for the secret code that you received earlier - enter it and confirm the move.
  • After the application finishes its work, it will notify you that the transfer operation is complete.

Transfer contacts without a PC

If you do not have the opportunity to connect to a personal computer, you can go another way: through the Bluetooth wireless protocol. To transfer contacts, follow these simple steps:

  • Turn on your phones.
  • Activate the Bluetooth function on both devices (the instructions for the phone will indicate how).
  • On your old gadget, go to the Bluetooth settings menu and start searching for a new device.
  • Confirm synergy with the new gadget by entering the same PIN codes.
  • Go to the sections of your phone book and mark the contacts you want to export.
  • After transferring the data, the contacts will appear on your new gadget.

Transfer data using SD and SIM cards

If your old device supports this function, you can copy contacts using a SIM or SD card. The process only seems complicated, but in reality everything is quite simple. The main thing is to follow the instructions.

Export via SD card:

  1. Insert your memory card into your old phone.
  2. Through the menu and working with contacts, save data to a CD card.
  3. Reinstall the card on a new gadget.
  4. Upload contacts via “Contacts” -> “Functions” -> “Export/Import contacts” -> “Copy from SD card”.

Export via SIM card

One of the oldest (but proven) methods for migrating contacts is export using a SIM card. It is used only in the most emergency cases (without light, Internet, removable media, etc.).

The main disadvantage of this method is the character limit in the name. That is, you will be able to transfer contacts (no more than 200), but all of them will be “cut off” to 8 characters, which is extremely inconvenient (you have to be clever with abbreviations of first and last names).

In order to copy contacts via a SIM card, you must first export it to it in the old phone through the menu, and then, after inserting it into the new gadget, transfer all the data to the phone book. Everything seems simple, but restrictions greatly distort all migrating information.

Sometimes, in the event of any problems with your Android device, you have to resort to such radical measures as, for example, resetting the settings (hard reset), thereby losing (sometimes irretrievably) all information, including contacts. Anyone who has encountered such a situation at least once wants to protect themselves and save numbers from their phone book on their PC.

In fact, there are many ways to perform this procedure, and now we will tell you about them.

Transfer contacts via Google account

First, you need to create an account on Google or create a Gmail.com email (which is basically the same thing). It must be said that the Android mobile device is closely connected with the Google service, so if you want to get 100% return on your smartphone, then creating this account is a must. You will have to do this procedure from your device, so you will need a network connection.

A window will open showing your account. Here, to start synchronization, you need to click on your account, or on the “Sync” button. everything" located at the bottom of the window:

So, we synchronize phone numbers from our gadget with gmail.com mail. (that is, with the Google service). Therefore, to start synchronization, click “Synchronize”:

It remains to wait a few minutes until the end of the procedure.

Three items will appear in the window that opens: Gmail, “Contacts” and “Tasks”.

By clicking “Contacts”, we open a list of data. Here, in addition to phone numbers, there will be a list of all friends from Google+. You can start saving data into a text document. To do this, click “Advanced”, after which the “Export” window will appear. By choosing the first option, saving will take place in Microsoft Excel, but you can save in any format convenient for you:

Transfer contacts via USB

It is possible that this method will be easier for you. What do we do in this case? First you need to connect your Android to your PC using a USB cable. Then open the phone book:

Now you need to open the context menu (display button at the bottom) and select “Import/export”:

A list of commands will open, from which you need to select “Export to SD memory card”, and then confirm by clicking “Yes”, which saves the data to the SD card:

Now open the external card with the computer. A file with the VCF extension (Microsoft Outlook format) appeared on it. This is where our copied information is located:

After this procedure, by setting up mail using Microsoft Outlook, the file will open in an easy-to-read format.

If you don’t have this program, or you use another email client, then without turning off your smartphone, go into your mail again, click “Advanced” and select “Import”. Then click “Select file” and find our file in CSV format via your computer:

Now, by clicking the blue “Import” button, we will receive the data, as in the first case. And by clicking the “Advanced” button and selecting “Print”, the data will be displayed in an easy-to-read form. Now you can select the list with the mouse or hot keys (Ctrl+A) and copy it to a Microsoft Word document or notepad.

It remains to add that there are also special applications that allow you to transfer contacts from Android to your computer. However, it’s probably not worth it to specifically take up gadget space to transfer contacts using a program, because the methods that we’ve just talked about cope with the task quite successfully.
