Help

1. Position the MTS 3G Router so that the number of obstacles (walls, ceilings, etc.) between it and other network equipment is minimal. Each obstacle reduces the range of the wireless network by several meters (from 1 to 30).

2. Mentally draw a line between the "MTS 3G Router" and the network device. It is recommended to arrange the devices so that this line runs perpendicular to the walls or ceilings located between the MTS 3G Router and the network device (for a signal passing through an obstacle at an angle, the wall thickness is much greater).

3. Pay attention to the material from which the obstacle is made. A massive iron door or aluminum beams that are in the zone of a wireless network reduce its range. Try to place your "MTS 3G Router", access points and computers so that the signal passes through thin walls or doorways. The signal is negatively affected by glass, steel, metal, insulated walls, water (aquaria), mirrors, cabinets, brick and concrete walls.

4. Keep "MTS 3G Router" away (at least at a distance of 1-2 meters) from electrical appliances or devices that create radio frequency interference.

5. 2.4 GHz cordless phones or X-10 equipment (wireless devices such as ceiling fans, lighting fixtures, or home security systems) may interfere with your wireless connection. Make sure that the base of your 2.4 GHz radiotelephone is as far away from your wireless devices as possible. Note that the radiotelephone base transmits a signal even when the phone is not in use.

DNS servers are used to determine an IP address from a server name on internal networks or the Internet (usually specified by an ISP or assigned by a network administrator). Search domain values are required to auto-populate a first- or second-level domain when a user enters an incomplete address in the address bar (for example, if the search domain is set to .ru and the user types in the address bar mts, the system automatically substitutes ***** ).

"MTS 3G Router" performs the function of DNS relay, that is, it redirects users' DNS requests to external (issued by the provider) DNS servers. In this case, the IP address of the LAN interface of the “MTS 3G Router” is indicated as the DNS server for clients of the internal (LAN) network, and external DNS servers are indicated on the Router itself.

Once again, manufacturers of mobile equipment offer customers to plunge into the world of digital technology. This time, MTS mobile 4G routers are presented on the market, the tasks of which include providing the user with high-speed access to any corner of the globe. True, it is immediately specified that the router only works in the coverage area of the LTE 4G network. Settings, specifications, user reviews and expert recommendations will allow you to get to know the new product better.

General Information

It is better to start with the gadget itself. The manufacturers managed to install a 4G receiver with a powerful antenna, a Wi-Fi module and a large battery in a small box (palm size). Such an MTS 4G router can be purchased for 2-3 thousand rubles.

There are many manufacturers on the modern market of mobile routers, but not all of them work with Russian mobile operators. This creates problems for some users who often visit other countries. In this article, the review will affect equipment that works without problems in the LTE 4G networks of the MTS operator.

Proprietary technologies

When purchasing a 4G LTE Wi-Fi router from MTS, the buyer will certainly notice that there are several different markings for the same device models. The fact is that the operator's network in Russia is one, but different standards are used in each region. Accordingly, before buying a router, the user must check with the service provider what standard his equipment has. In general, experts recommend purchasing universal devices that will work 100% in any Russian city, including Moscow, with the MTS telecom operator.

Another problem that every user may face is the inconsistency of equipment for different mobile service providers. After all, each operator, trying to keep the client, makes sure that the wireless with 4G-cards of its competitors. Therefore, it is recommended to give preference to equipment that can be upgraded.

A simple solution

4G routers "MTS" modification 823F are often offered to users as a gift to a contract package with a VIP tariff. In fact, in retail, on the windows of electronics stores, you can find the same device under the Huawei brand, which has a price of about 3,000 rubles. The router is considered the best purchase for users in terms of price-quality ratio.

Mobile router "MTS" 4G supports all existing mobile communication standards: 2G, 3G, 4G LTE. The device implements the Wi-Fi 802.11n standard. The router supports WEP, WPA2 and WPA encryption. The case has two connectors for connecting amplification antennas, and the 1800 mAh battery is removable.

Functionality of a worthy product

We continue to consider the router from MTS. 4G demonstrates uninterrupted operation in the operator's networks, regardless of the region. Some buyers are confused only by the lack of support for LTE-TDD Band 38 technology. Moscow users with the MTS 823F router will experience a slight loss in speed. Unless owners using old mobile equipment operating on 802.11 a / b / c technology may not be suitable for this router.

As for the advantages, the mobile router has a lot of them. First, the body design. The power button, unlike competitor devices, is deeply recessed into the plastic case - this solution completely eliminates the accidental turning on and off of the router. The built-in card reader, which supports memory cards up to 64 gigabytes, also deserves positive feedback. In fact, this is a full-featured file server. The router works great with Apple technology and has a built-in controller that can count the amount of traffic used.

Above - only stars

The king of all mobile routers in the domestic market is the device from the MTS company - the WiFi 4G router Connect-4. The device supports all wireless communication standards existing in the world. In addition, the router allows all devices to connect to the Wi-Fi network, regardless of the 802.11 communication standard. You can talk about encryption and support for network protocols for hours. It's easier to note that there are no standards that the router is unfamiliar with. And even if this happens, updating the firmware will solve all the problems of the user.

Unlike competitors, the device is able to send and receive messages in GSM networks with the appropriate card. At the hardware level, the router has support for all known operating systems. The built-in battery with a capacity of 3000 mAh allows the router to work for at least 6 hours in a row. Only the cost is confusing - 5000 rubles for a mobile router, a little expensive.

Chinese Representative

On the domestic market, you can find ZTE products, which many sellers offer as a 4G Wi-Fi router "MTS". Feedback from owners about such a device is only positive. True, in order for the device to work in the networks of a mobile operator, you need to solve the compatibility problem. The fact is that such devices are often programmed for a specific provider. Therefore, the router at the hardware level must support unlocking with a special code.

With ZTE products in this regard, complete order. The owner of the device can use the services of MTS, Megafon, Beeline and cards of little-known operators. Only before installing a SIM card, you need to constantly enter the unlock code, which can be obtained using a special utility. Details about the application for obtaining the unlock code can be found on the Internet.

Choosing the Right Mobile Router

As practice shows, most buyers purchased their 4G Wi-Fi router "MTS" from the operator in addition to one of the proposed packages. However, not all users initially understand what functionality they need from the device, and accordingly, they buy what the seller indicates. Only during operation, many unpleasant little things are discovered that the operation of a mobile router delivers:

  1. Work portability. In their reviews, experts recommend not chasing large battery capacities in the device, because the price for a router is directly proportional to the size of the battery. If you need portability, then it is better to look after a mobile charger. It will be able to charge not only a mobile router, but also a phone with a tablet.
  2. Support for Wi-Fi standards. Not all smartphones and other mobile devices support 802.11n technology. You need to take this into account and select a router that supports old standards.
  3. 4G routers "MTS" are often equipped with additional functionality that affects the price of the product. As practice shows, users rarely use such functions in their work.

3G / 4G router MTS creates a Wi-Fi network to which you can connect any device from a laptop to a tablet or even a smart TV. In fact, the MTS 3G / 4G router is a hybrid of a 3G / 4G modem and a modem-enabled router, but at the same time it compares favorably with such a combination of two devices with a built-in battery and compact size.

3G/4G router for MTS

Any 3G / 4G router that can be bought in the GSM-Repeaters.RU online store is guaranteed to work with the MTS operator. In addition, routers from our store will compare favorably with branded 3G / 4G MTS routers by compatibility with absolutely any mobile operator. This means that if necessary, you can change the MTS SIM card and buy a card from another operator offering more interesting prices for the Internet. Also, the possibility of changing the operator will be relevant for trips abroad and when traveling in Russia, when the prices for mobile Internet from local operators are much lower than from your main operator in roaming.

Where can I use a 3G/4G router?

In the usual view, a router is an exclusively stationary device connected to the Internet using a cable. With the advent of portable 3G / 4G routers, this idea can be safely called outdated. A modern 3G/4G router is a stylish compact gadget with a built-in battery. The size of a modern router is so small that it can easily fit into a pocket or even a small women's handbag. MTS mobile 3G / 4G routers, which you can buy on our website, can work from the network, from the built-in battery and even from the car's cigarette lighter. This gives you the opportunity, which until recently seemed incredible, to be connected to the Internet from MTS absolutely everywhere. In the morning in a country house, in the afternoon in the car and office, in the evening in nature - you will always have your own Wi-Fi network with the Internet. It's really modern and extremely comfortable.

A device for "distributing" the Internet via WiFi can be useful not only for small businesses. But without high-speed data transfer in the 3G network, the router is more like a pretty, but of little use toy. That is why they are going to sell it only in regions where third-generation networks have already been deployed.

A few years ago, it was hardly possible to seriously consider the GSM network as a source of Internet access for collective use. Even the relatively fast EDGE with its 120-150 Kbps is clearly not suitable for this purpose, the practical meaning in such a device appears only if 3G is available. There are not many points with "live" 3G in Moscow, in MTS today there are "as many" 17 objects. Moreover, the objects are perfectly equipped with wired telephony and wired data transmission networks. On the other hand, outside of Moscow, 3G networks are being actively built and expanded, so there will certainly be a suitable market niche for the router. Muscovites are spoiled for cheap wired and WiMax Internet, and already a couple of tens of kilometers from the capital, the number of connection options is sharply reduced and prices are raging. According to a study conducted by Yandex in February 2009, in large Russian cities (excluding Moscow and St. Petersburg), users pay an average of 1,050 rubles. per month for a fixed data transmission channel at a speed of 512 Kbps.

Another important advantage of the router is the ability to connect an external antenna. Useful for connecting several computers to a network in rooms with poor or no coverage.

Quote from the press release:

“When purchasing the MTS 3G Router package, a corporate client gets the opportunity to simultaneously provide up to 254 office employees with high-speed (up to 3.6 Mbps) Internet access at any point of MTS 3G network coverage, as well as in MTS EDGE / GPRS networks. Computers, as well as any Wi-Fi-enabled devices in the office, are connected to the MTS router via a secure Wi-Fi connection, which allows office employees to gain reliable and secure access to the network. Connecting the MTS 3G Router kit does not require lengthy configuration, employees will be able to connect to the network on their own in a few minutes.”

The router "takes" the Internet from the 2G / 3G network and distributes it to consumers via Ethernet and WiFi connections. Up to 254 devices can connect to the router simultaneously via WiFi and up to 4 devices via a network cable. It is clear that it is unlikely that anyone will need to connect such a number of users, it is even physically difficult to place them within the hotspot coverage area. But it’s still interesting, where did another device connected in the MTS version come from? The manufacturer of the router (AnyDATA company) assures us of 253 possible connections, the same number 253 appears in the description of another router, so it's hardly a mistake. I remembered an old joke about the fact that in the Soviet Union even a right angle is straighter than in the decaying west. The claimed effective range of WiFi is up to 150 m in open areas and up to 50 m indoors.

Router "MTS 3G"

A nice white box with two antennas, everything is stylish, neat, and even the AC adapter is also white. It will take little or no space on the table, as the manufacturer has carefully provided “ears” for wall mounting.

Antennas are movable in one plane, different antennas (WiFi and GSM / 3G) are marked with rings of different colors.

The device is locked under the MTS network and will not work with SIM-cards of other operators. But that's not all. If you believe the description, then the SIM card that comes with the router will also not work in any other device. There is a suspicion that at one time too many SIM-lock cards were ordered for SIM tariffs, such SIM cards were issued along with subsidized iPhones. Now useful for routers. Why they came up with this - I don’t know, and I don’t even have any ideas, because the tariff plan that comes with the router does not provide for an option with unlimited traffic.

On the rear panel there are four LAN ports, a reset button, a power socket. A backup battery is not provided.

The slot for the SIM card is under the cover from below, the card holder is equipped with a lock.

On the front panel there are LED indicators and a logo, nothing else interesting. I was intrigued by the phrase from the User's Guide: "Connect the power cable, then turn on the power button." I carefully examined the device, I did not find the button. It seems that it was simply canceled as unnecessary or out of economy. The only button is resetting the router, let's hope that overly obedient users will not press it to turn on the device.

There are no problems with the connection, everything works. True, there are some doubts about the promised 50 meters of indoor range. At a distance of 8 meters through one frail drywall partition, the signal was clearly weak, and the transfer speed often jumped to 2 Mbps.

Setting up all access parameters via the Web interface, no problem. At least through a smartphone browser. True, for some reason a strange incompatibility with Mozilla FireFox was discovered, everything is displayed normally in the MS Internet Explorer browser.

Among other amusing trifles is the included CD-ROM with an intriguing name "MTC AWR-602W Installation CD". In fact, you do not need to install anything, on the disk there is a "User's Guide" in electronic form.

Prices and equipment

Detailed information about routers is on the MTS website, where you can also download the "User's Guide" and the latest firmware version for the router. And also get acquainted with the features of tariff plans. The price of the MTS AWR-602W router kit plus an external 3G antenna plus the tariff is 7990 rubles, of which 1090 rubles. on balance. A set without an external antenna - 6590 rubles, of which 1090 rubles. on balance. When purchasing a bundle, the user receives 500 MB of traffic as a gift, which can be used until the end of the month in which the purchase was made.

The above prices do not take into account the 15% discount for loyalty, the discount applies to the subscription fee for traffic packages and does not apply to the cost of connecting the package. You can connect to the “MTS 3G Router (corp.)” tariff only if you purchase the router itself. In the foreseeable future, they promise to start selling the router with a special rate also to private users.

This router is manufactured by the well-known Chinese company ZTE Corporation, which has proven itself on a fairly positive side. The mobile operator MTS purchases these devices, puts its logos on the case, installs the original firmware and as a result we get an excellent 3g wifi mts router, which will be discussed longer.

Router package

ZTE MF30 routers from MTS also go on sale in original packaging, by the appearance of which the MTS mobile operator is immediately identified - red colors and a window in the shape of a chicken egg.

Router packaging

As expected, the packaging on all sides informs the buyer about the purchased device with inscriptions and drawings.

The package includes a pocket Wi-Fi router, a MiniUSB network cable, a power supply, a user manual, a warranty card and a SIM card with the MTS Connect-4 tariff plan.

The proposed tariff plan contains four unlimited sets: "Unlimited-Mini", "Unlimited-Maxi", "Unlimited-Super" and "Unlimited-VIP", details of which can be found on the mobile operator's website -
http://www.mts.ru/mob_connect/tariffs/tariffs/connect4/

The appearance of the router

Externally, the router looks like a bar of soap. In addition to being quite cute, but also practical - the router does not cling to clothes when you lie down or take it out of your pocket.

The appearance of the router

The body of the router is completely black, and only the outline on the edge is bright red, again a tribute to the color traditions of MTS.

Front, side and bottom panels of the router

All indicator LEDs are located on the front panel. There are four in total -

    Battery level;

    received signal power;

    traffic transmission;

    WiFi status.

The colors of the indicators are different, they can also be on or flashing, which corresponds to different modes:

Designations of the LED indicators of the router

On the side panel there are two buttons and a slot for a microSD memory card with a plastic cover. One button is for turning on the router, the second button is for activating the WPS mode - automatic connection of wireless devices. In total there can be up to 5 pieces.

At the bottom of the case is a connector for connecting a USB cable.

The bottom end of the router

If you have a memory card, the router can be used as an external USB drive when connected to a computer using a USB cable.

Connecting to computers

3g wi fi mts router can work in two modes - as a router and as a modem. To work as a modem, it is enough to connect the router to the computer with the included cable and wait until the built-in Connect manager program is automatically installed. After installation, a shortcut will appear on the desktop, through which the program starts.

In the case of the mode of operation as a router, simply turn on the device and press the button on the end that activates the WPS function. The router will automatically network up to five devices with shared Internet access.

Application "Connect Manager"

After launching the program using a shortcut, the main program window will appear on the desktop.

The first page of the Connect Manager program

The program is completely in Russian, in the left and lower parts of the window, the settings item is selected.

Step one - Interface setup. This refers to the program interface - automatic minimization to the system tray, automatic connection with the provider and a separate display of data transfer statistics.

The second menu item is Network.

Network menu

In this menu, the telecom operator is selected (a strange decision, since the router only works with the MTS operator), and the choice of priority between 2G and 3G.

The third point is Operations with PIN.

Operations with PIN code

There is only one setting - to request a pin code when the pocket router initializes the SIM card, or not.

The fourth point is SMS.

SMS settings

This item is used to configure SMS messages.

Fifth point - Setting up the modem.

Modem setup

At this point, it’s better not to change anything at all - all the necessary settings have already been set by the cellular operator before selling the router.

The sixth point is Information.

Item "Information"

This menu is for informational purposes, nothing can be configured here. In this window, you can see the current versions of software and hardware.

The last item is Application Activation.

Router Tab

By selecting the “Router” tab at the bottom of the window, you will enter the local network settings. The settings consist of two submenus.

LAN settings

In the first submenu, wireless Wi-Fi networks are configured. The first line from the top is responsible for turning on the wireless module. In the second line, you must specify the name of the wireless network (SSID). In the third line, you can select a channel, there are 13 in total. The fourth line is used to select the Wi-Fi operation mode, there are two of them - b and g, or mixed. The fifth line, respectively, is needed to select the data transfer rate.

If desired, you can hide the network by checking the "Hide SSID" box. After making changes, it is important to confirm them by clicking the "Apply" button.

The second submenu is the Wi-Fi network security settings.

Configuring Wireless Network Security

Here you can configure both a free connection of wireless devices to the router, and a secure connection, which will require a password. As already mentioned, the mts 3g router allows you to connect no more than five devices to itself, but this figure can be reduced to one.

Connecting to the router via the web interface

But you can connect to the router settings through a wireless connection. Configuration is done through any web browser. To do this, turn on the router, make sure that the connection to the computer is established, and open any web browser.

In the address bar of the browser, enter the network address of the router - 192.168.0.1. A window will appear asking you to enter a username and password - the default is "admin" and "admin".

Entering the username and password to enter the settings menu

After pressing the "Login" button, the main settings menu will open.

Router settings menu

All menus are also in Russian, and differ from the "connect manager" only in appearance, the settings are all the same.
